Sitting at his feet

The Lord went to the desert 40 days
no thunder spoke, nor did strange fire appear
but after, he was tested many ways
yet in the Spirit went forth without fear

what words can I say after a retreat
when silence was sufficient for the Lord
where love was simply sitting at his feet
whose presence held the meaning of his word

as pilgrims know, we only come to go
yet even so, we are not spared surprise 
when suddenly, with warmth of home a glow
we see the place we have in Christ's own eyes

Martha told Mary: the Lord is here!
He is calling you! Leave your house without fear.
